THE HIGH LINE PARK SUMMARY
The High Line is a 2.33 km New York City park built on a West Side Line which runs along the lower west side of Manhattan. This park was originally constructed in 1930s . Operated under the jurisdiction of the New York City Department of Parks and Recreation , and owned by the City of New York , Section 1 of the High Line is open as a public park . The High Line features an integrated landscape , designed by landscape architects James Corner Field Operations with architects Diller Scofidio + Renfra , by combining meandering concrete pathways with naturalistic plantings . The High Line’s planting design is inspired by the self-seeded landscape that grew on the out-of-use elevated rail tracks during the 25 years after trains stopped running . Because of the hardiness , sustanability , textural and color variation , 210 species of perennials , grasses , shrubs and trees in Section 1 were chosen . The landscape with Section 1 plants blooming from late January to mid-November .
